........the beginning of our journey

... .Luckily for you readers, I am quite tired tonight. So, it will be more about photos than written descriptions!

We landed at Vancouver International about a 3 hours before we left Brisbane on the same date, 12 July. A cloudy, drizzly day did not aid our jet-lagged haziness! Although we had a lovely lunch at "Bread And Meat" and two good walks, the only photos we took were in the evening, near where we had a delicious dinner at "Cactus Club" in Coal Harbour.

TODAY, however, was pretty lively. We boogied to the Bank in the morning, followed by lunch at Timmy's (Tim Horton's, one of Rob's favourite Canadian casual diners). Then, another l-o-n-g walk, during which time many photos were taken. We ended up in Stanley Park, riding from spot to spot on a "Hop-On, Hop-Off" tram-style bus. Our two best stops were Prospect Point and The Totem Poles! '

Afternoon tea was maple ice-cream for me & a raspberry and cream ice-cream for Rob.

But dinner: we surpassed our previous night's effort, although we dined in the same district of Coal Harbour. Second night in a row, waterfront dining. Second night in a row, seafood for me! Rob had short ribs last night, but Halibut was on the menu tonight. And I tried sablefish......oh my, it melted in my mouth. This could replace salmon as my favourite fish!

We are soooooo tired, but have to rise early tomorrow! Pick up the car, go grocery & esky shopping, get out of Vancouver, and I have absolutely no idea where we will be tomorrow night!

sunny 21 °C

Saying good-bye to Mildred, Ned & Anita with a lovely lunch at The Fig Restaurant, Waterloo Bay Hotel. It was a warm & sunny Sunday afternoon! Lunch was so bountiful that Rob & I are not having dinner tonight! Just carrying on with our preparations for departure on Tuesday the 12th!

This little entry is more of an experiment really! Tonight I set up this blog rather hastily & sent out an email to some family & friends who I thought might be interested.

I'm dubious about whether I'll be able to keep it up, as I remember frequent frustrations in the past, trying to post photos and even just trying to get on-line! Hopefully things have improved since our first long road-trip trip in Canada in 2004: that one was four months! And the similar road-trips made in 2008 and 2010, not quite as long.

While remembering trips, must mention the first 2-month trip in 1990, before the WWW was commonplace in our lives. And then in 1995/96, there was a 6 week trip, in Winter! Wish I had a blog from that one-----with commentary about Robert learning to skate, while pushing a pink chair!

But all we have from the pre-2004 trips are "real" photographs, the kind you can hold in your hand. (And yes, I kept a few notes.)

Well, here goes the 2-week countdown to ADVENTURE ON! A trip to visit a few old favourite spots, to attend two family weddings, and to travel to the North West Territories, to experience the Aurora Borealis on "the big screen" of the northern skies.
